After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps. I served the country proudly for four years from duty stations in Naples, Italy for 18 months and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for 2 years. I had the opportunity to travel and see quite a bit of the world including, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Austria, Tunisia, Somolia, and of course most of Italy. Upon return to the United States, I attended classes at the University of Miami, Florida. My major was to be political science, but after one semester, I grew bored. After the Marine Corps, I came back to Martinsville to try and settle back into regular life. I started working at Karma records in Martinsville part-time, which some of you may have seen me there. I moved up to manager, then to district manager over 5 stores. Then I jumped at the chance to own my own stores. I became owner of both the Martinsville and Mooresville Karma records. I wish I could say it was a success, but downloading, and itunes, and overpriced cds made for a short run. The way we obtained our music was changing, and I was on the wrong boat. So, after 8 years of easy living, I had to get a real job, especially for the insurance. I now work as a machine operator, and trust me, its not as glamorous as it sounds. I turned to other methods to get my music fix. I started singing karaoke and also joined a couple of bands. The bands always fell apart, but karaoke has been pretty good to me. For a time I was entering many contests, for fun, and winning a few along the way. You may laugh, but there can be decent money in some contests. While not as serious about it today, I still venture out to sing quite a bit and the above link is to my myspace karaoke page. I have about 70 songs on there and you can listen for yourself and leave me little messages telling me how bad I suck. My family. I met my wife Terri in 1994, and within 2 weeks we moved in together. She had a 3 year old daughter whom I proudly claim as my own. She will graduate with honors this year from mhs and start her college career next fall. Terri and myself were married on Nov 1, 1996. In December of that same year, we welcomed our son, Justice into our lives. He is now a sixth grader at west middle and he is also on his way to an honorable and fulfilling school career. Last year, we were both stunned and excited to find out that we would be adding to our happy family, and on July 7, 2008 Brighton Cole Nugent was born. It is a challenge to basically start all over after 12 years, I mean we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and now, its back to square one. Challenging as it may be, I am sure that as those of you who have children can atest to, there is nothing more rewarding, and when I heard his first new cries in he world, I knew I would welcome the opportunity to be a father again. Since high school, I have led an exciting life, there may always be things that I have not done that I may never get to, but with the love of my family, and all their dreams, I will continue to make every single day, fun, and a joy to live with every passing moment.
