Daniel Richard Cummings, 43, lost his courageous battle with colon cancer in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 2, 2014.  He passed peacefully at home with his family.

Dan was diagnosed with cancer in March, 2013.  In the past 13 months he lived life to the fullest, traveling and making many great memories with his partner and son.  Together they traveled to the sandy beaches of Southwestern Michigan, a western Caribbean Cruise with stops in Cozumel, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Costa Maya, Mexico, in July, a trip to the Great West by train, plane and automobile!  They visited the Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park it was a trip of a life time.  In October a relaxing trip to Gatlinburg to watch the fall foliage firework show.  For Christmas, a 7 day cruise to St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Bahamas.  His final journey took him home to be with Jesus Christ.  Dan’s greatest success in life was knowing and loving his family and friends.  Dan was a wonderful father to his best little buddy Lewis.

He was born on December 2, 1970 in Tampa, Florida to Duane and Patricia (Boothby) Cummings.  They reside in Martinsville.  Other survivors include his partner, Tracey (Darkis) Cummings of Franklin; son, Lewis Tyler Cummings of Franklin; sister, Sharon Marie (Jeff) Byrd of Martinsville; brother, Gerald (Karen) Cummings of Indianapolis and sister, Judy Cummings of Martinsville.  Also surviving are his in-laws, Delbert and Mary Darkis of Greenwood; sister-in-laws, Lisa (Mike) Harris of Martinsville and Stacey Darkis of Santa Monica, California; nieces and nephew; Dylan Kelsay, Brittany (Blake) Bissonette, Allie Byrd; Kelli Clayton, Kristi Souders and Sarah Ponto.  Dan was preceded in passing by his paternal grandparents, Edwin M. and Elva H. (Steiner) Cummings and maternal grandparents, A. Wesley and Vera (Clee) Boothby and niece, Alexis Holbert.

He was a 1989 graduate of Martinsville High School.  Dan attended Indiana State University from 1989 to 1994.  He graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with an Associates of Accounting Degree in 2005.

He was employed by Tyco International in Indianapolis as a Consolidated Billing Coordinator from 2006 to 2014.  By 2008, Dan’s supervisor had notice what a great job he was doing.  He was nominated and won a trip to Jamaica as Employee of the Year. 

He was a past member of Walnut & Grant Street Church of Christ in Martinsville.  Dan enjoyed sports, watching the Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame Football and the Chicago Cubs.  Dan loved to listen to music and was quite the collector of different styles of music.

Rev. Harvey Weaver will conduct a service on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with Brother Chad Griffin conducting a graveside service at Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon immediately following the service.   Friends may visit the family on Friday, April 4th, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday, April 5th from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
